Delivery Information
Shipping & Delivery Information
At HanBon Forge, we ship handcrafted swords to customers around the world using reliable international shipping partners. Because swords require special handling and may be subject to different customs regulations depending on the destination, the shipping method, delivery time, and customs procedure may vary by country.
The information below explains our current shipping options, estimated delivery times, customs arrangements, tracking, and special requirements for oversized swords.

Shipping to Other Countries
HanBon Forge also ships to many countries outside the regions listed above. Depending on the destination, orders may be routed through one of our international forwarding partners and delivered by carriers such as UPS, EMS, FedEx, or another suitable courier.
For these destinations:
- Shipping cost may vary by country and parcel size.
- Typical international delivery is around 2–3 weeks after dispatch.
- Import duties and taxes may be the customer's responsibility where a prepaid customs route is not available.
- Local customs authorities may occasionally request additional information from the recipient.
If your country cannot be selected during checkout, please contact us before placing your order. We can confirm whether shipping is currently available and provide the applicable shipping cost.
Production Time vs. Shipping Time
Please note that production time and delivery time are separate.
Most standard sword orders require time for forging, assembly, polishing, sharpening, fitting, engraving when requested, and final quality inspection before shipment.
Highly customized swords, unusual blade dimensions, special polishing, custom saya finishes, Odachi/Nodachi, and other non-standard configurations may require additional production time.
Pre-Shipment Photos & Quality Check
For custom sword orders, we normally inspect the completed sword before shipment and can provide photos for confirmation.
Our quality-control process may include checking:
- Blade and fittings
- Tsuka and tsuba assembly
- Menuki orientation
- Saya fit
- Engraving details
- Blade finish and polish
- Overall appearance of the completed sword
This additional step helps identify any visible issues before the sword begins its international journey.
Tracking Your Order
Once your sword has been dispatched and tracking information becomes available, we will provide the tracking number to you.
Please note that international shipments may involve more than one logistics provider. In some cases, tracking may not update immediately while the parcel is moving between international forwarding facilities or waiting for the local delivery carrier to receive it.
A temporary pause in tracking does not necessarily mean that the parcel has stopped moving.
Customs & Import Regulations
Sword import regulations vary from one country to another. Customers are responsible for ensuring that the sword they order is legal to import and possess in their destination country.
For destinations where HanBon Forge offers a prepaid customs route, we arrange the applicable customs payment through our shipping partner.
For destinations without a prepaid customs service, local customs authorities may charge import duty, VAT, handling fees, or other taxes according to local regulations.
Customs inspections can occasionally extend the normal delivery time.
Import rules can change and may differ depending on blade type, blade length, sharpness, and local law.
Odachi, Nodachi & Oversized Swords
Extra-long swords require special shipping arrangements because international couriers impose limits on parcel length.
For Odachi, Nodachi, and other oversized custom swords, we recommend keeping the packaged sword length within approximately 160 cm whenever possible.
Very long swords may require:
- A special shipping route
- Additional freight charges
- Different packaging
- Approval from the shipping provider before dispatch
If you are planning a custom sword with an unusually long blade or handle, please contact us before ordering so we can check production and shipping feasibility.
Multiple-Sword Orders
We can ship multiple swords in the same order. The final shipping cost depends on the destination, combined parcel weight, sword dimensions, and available shipping route.
For European destinations where shipping is calculated by weight, a standard packaged sword is generally calculated at approximately 2 kg.
For large orders, dealer orders, event orders, or wholesale shipments, please contact us directly so we can determine the most suitable shipping arrangement.
Delivery Delays
We work carefully to dispatch orders through reliable shipping channels, but international delivery dates cannot be absolutely guaranteed.
Occasional delays may result from:
- Customs inspections
- Local import procedures
- Public holidays
- Severe weather
- Flight or transportation disruptions
- Remote delivery locations
- Temporary courier restrictions
If your tracking shows an unusual delay, please contact us and we will help check the shipment with our logistics partner.
Frequently Asked Shipping Questions
Will I receive a tracking number?
Yes. Tracking information will be provided after your order has been dispatched and the tracking number becomes available.
Do I need to pay customs duties?
It depends on your destination. For the United States, Australia, and selected European shipping routes, we provide prepaid customs arrangements as described above. For other destinations, local import taxes or duties may apply.
Why hasn't my tracking updated?
International shipments sometimes pass through forwarding facilities before being transferred to the final delivery carrier. Tracking updates may temporarily pause during this process.
Can you ship several swords together?
Yes. We regularly handle multi-sword orders. Shipping cost will depend on destination, total weight, parcel dimensions, and the shipping method available.
Can you ship Odachi or Nodachi swords?
Yes, in many cases. However, very long swords are subject to parcel-length restrictions and may require special freight arrangements. Please contact us before ordering an unusually long sword.
My country is not available at checkout. Can you still ship to me?
Possibly. Please contact us with your country and postal code. We can check the currently available sword shipping route for your location.
