HanBon Forge is a direct sword manufacturer specializing in custom Japanese swords, including katana, wakizashi, tanto, nodachi, ninjato and shirasaya, as well as Chinese swords and anime-inspired sword replicas.

From Steel to Finished Sword

A handcrafted sword passes through many separate stages before it becomes a finished piece. Depending on the blade construction and specifications, the process may include forging, shaping, heat treatment, grinding, polishing, fitting and final assembly.

Different blade types require different production methods. A through-hardened blade, clay-tempered blade, folded blade or custom-length sword may each require a different approach during heat treatment and finishing.

Our goal is to maintain consistency throughout the entire process, from the initial blade preparation to the final fitting and inspection.

Built Around Your Design

Customization is one of the defining parts of HanBon Forge. Instead of choosing only from completed swords, you can select many of the elements that determine how your sword looks, feels and performs.

Quality Is in the Details

A sword may appear simple from a distance, but its quality depends on many individual details working together. Blade alignment, fittings, tsuka assembly, saya fit, polishing and overall balance all contribute to the finished piece.

For custom orders, specifications are reviewed during production and the completed sword is inspected before shipment.

Particular attention is paid to details such as blade finish, fitting orientation, handle assembly, saya fit and the overall appearance of the completed sword.

Because handcrafted products can involve small natural variations, our objective is not mass-produced uniformity. Our focus is careful workmanship, correct specifications and a finished sword that reflects the configuration selected by the customer.

See Your Sword Before It Ships

For custom builds, one of the most important steps happens after the sword is completed.

We provide confirmation photographs of completed custom swords before shipment whenever applicable, allowing customers to review the overall appearance and configuration of their sword before it leaves us.

This is especially useful for personalized orders, where details such as fittings, wrapping colors, saya design, hamon and engraving have been individually selected.

Materials & Blade Options

Different customers expect different characteristics from a sword. That is why HanBon Forge offers multiple blade materials and construction options rather than relying on a single standard configuration.

Depending on the model, available options can include 1060 carbon steel, 1095 carbon steel, T10 tool steel, 9260 spring steel, folded steel and clay-tempered blades with a natural hamon.

Blade specifications can be selected according to the intended purpose of the sword, whether the priority is collection, display, martial arts practice or cutting.

No Two Custom Swords Need to Be the Same

Some customers want a traditional-looking katana with understated fittings. Others prefer unusual blade lengths, distinctive colors, custom engraving or highly personalized combinations of materials and components.

We welcome both.

From a first custom katana to a carefully planned collector's sword, our team works from the specifications provided for each individual order. When a requested feature requires special production or is not technically suitable, we communicate with the customer and discuss practical alternatives.
